Non-traditional Mexico Real Estate, Travel and Living

FAQ – 2 – Don’t you need to speak Spanish to live in Mexico?

This is one of the most contentious issues facing retirees and just about anyone hoping to relocate to Mexico.

There are plenty of places in Mexico where one doesn’t need to speak Spanish at all and where one can still live quite comfortably.

Many of the locations we write about most frequently are home to other northerners, and often even locals speak very good English.

Of course, it’s always good to learn what you can, and this is where so many Mexico devotees get so angry with the hyped up real estate and lifestyle publications that suggest you can live in Mexico easily and with no worries – and no Spanish.  Learning Spanish is generally what most retirees feel is the least they can do to give back to a country that offers so much. Many retirees enjoy taking advantage of affordable and informal lessons offered by locals enthusiastic to welcome them into their culture.

Learning Spanish – especially late in life – takes effort. But the rewards can be tremendous and it is all part of the learning experience that makes life in Mexico so very rewarding.

We try to provide some tips on Learning Spanish as regularly as we can, but immersion in the language is the single best way, even if it takes some time.
