Real estate prices had been increasing over the last few years…
…mostly driven by Americans moving to Mexico, on average, prices are less than a third of US equivalents. BUT… the world economic crisis has affected prices and the deals in Mexico are better than ever. You can still buy a very nice beach-front property for less than US$200,000. That same property in the US would cost a million dollars!
Many homes in Mexico can be had for prices between US$100,000 to $600,000. Almost all are far less than what you would pay in the US. And the real fun – of course – is in finding homes for US$60,000 – even US$40,000.
Foreigners are allowed to buy homes in Mexico and hold their titles in all except the restricted zone along the coast and international borders, just as long as they follow the same rules as Mexican natives.
There are a few documents required to purchase a home in Mexico, coastlines require the land to be “leased” as opposed to purchased forever, and you will need a good Real Estate broker to help you navigate some of the laws and terminology. En Casa Mexico Real Estate Services can recommend one and we’ll continue posting so that you are in the know.
