Q: Do I have to stay at Casa HOY or could I make my own arrangements?

The Living Room at Casa HOY!
This is the fourth in a series of blog entries, a list of Frequently Asked Questions, from our Blogging Partners at HOY Community who provide essential volunteer services throughout the Cuernavaca area. The questions are among the most common posed to them by visitors considering a week’s vacation and volunteering at Casa HOY.
If you’re planning to do a week of volunteer work with HOY, it will probably be more convenient to stay at Casa HOY instead of in other accommodations.
Although there are several very nice, comfortable hotels and even a few hostels around Cuernavaca, staying at Casa HOY is all part of the fun and experience of participatory travel.
First of all, economically speaking, lodging and breakfast is included in the trip price – why pay extra? Lodging is simple and breakfast is hearty and filling. (See my post on a tour of Casa HOY to learn more about the house.)
Furthermore, all transportation to and from volunteer sites is arranged out of Casa HOY.
Participants stay at Casa HOY not only for the convenience, but also for the company.
The best thing about being at Casa HOY is sharing travel stories and life stories and planning activities for volunteer projects and meeting new people AND about sharing life with a Mexican-American-international family. Spanish language practice, cooking tips, site recommendations, etc.
All that being said, HOY is flexible. If you want to make separate arrangements – but you just can’t get the inside scoop on life in Cuernavaca from the bellhop at the Holiday Inn.
